Honor Flight was designed to give every veteran a chance to see and experience the memorials built in their honor in Washington D.C., however, we realize some veterans leave us before they can travel. For this reason, Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois is proud to offer Honor Flags.
Honor Flags is a program which transports an American flag along with Honor Flight in memory of a deceased veteran. The flag is ceremoniously brought aboard our aircraft, travels with us during the entire day of Honor Flight, and is presented to the family of the deceased upon return to Veterans Airport. The flag is folded and encased in an Honor Flight carrier for protection. Photos are taken during the flight of the flag at various memorials around Washington D.C., these photos are then available to the family free of charge.
Honor Flags are available for veterans who were selected to fly, but passed away before flight day or for a donation of $200 or more, upon request. To schedule an Honor Flag, please contact us.
Due to the nature of the Honor Flag program, a maximum number of flags per flight applies.
